True Colors

This poem is dedicated to my dear friends who are afraid to be themselves and show their true colors.

Your true colors are beautiful.
The Oyster

Searching for approval,
Trying so hard to fit in,
Willing to do anything
To be accepted by her "friends".

Hoping that someone will like her,
And accept her for who she is,
Or who she tries to be
To make her "friends" happy.

Although her "friends" make her "happy",
She can't be open and honest with them,
Because she doesn't want to know what it feels like
To be rejected and used by them.

Someday, somehow,
She promises herself she will break out of her shell
And show the world her true colors,
But until then, this is what life is like right now.

She feels empty, lonely, and miserable
Pretending to be someone she's not;
She doesn't even realize
How far from her true self she has got

And everyday I pray I can crack open her shell.
I want the wold to see the pearl that's inside.
Something so precious and fragile and full of beauty;
That is what she felt she had to hide.

Until the day she sets the pearl free,
I am so thankful I got a glimpse and didn't miss
Something the whole world has wanted to see,
A spirit that passionately shines so clearly.

The passion and the pearl are locked up inside her.
She guards the key with every breath.
Struggling to survive as the world fights her;
Trying to forget about the passion imprisoned in her depth.

Constantly trying to forget who she is,
And the past that made her into who she could be .
Hiding behind a forced laugh and half smile,
Hoping someone will think that their time is worthwhile.

But until then,
All I can do is be a true friend,
And try to convince her to set her pearl free,
And show the world who she was mean to be.

To all my girls, I hope you realize how beautiful you are when you let go and just be yourself.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said,
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."
 The Bible says,
" For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11
"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."-Proverbs 30:31
Dude, God created you the way you are with the personality that you have for a reason. Everything God created is good, even you, don't let anyone tell you different.

My PCM kids have been learning that they are God's masterpiece, created uniquely and beautifully. One girl in my PCM put it this way,
"I am not what you think I am,
But what I want to be.
I am who a person will love.
I am a great friend.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I am God's masterpiece,
And nobody can change it."

This girl got it right, and she refuses to change who she is for other people.

Read Psalm 139, and remember who you are in Christ. God knows everything about yo,u and everything that you think and do, and he STILL loves to death, and so do I. Don't be afraid to be yourself. You are who God made you and wanted you to be. Show us the beautiful creation that God made when he created you.

With Lots of Love,
Zoe
